Hot off the Pres'
September 2009 (Season 09/10)
Firstly, a huge thanks to the departing committee for doing a great job last year and making for a smooth
transition to this year. We have an enthusiastic, young committee this year, and hopefully some
fresh ideas will arise to keep you all enjoying being involved in the club.
Congratulations to Jack, Georgia and our other aggregate champions. It was really good to see
everyone at preso night, and particularly the young guns taking over the open podium!
Thanks to the hardwork of past PSC committees, the club now owns the clubhouse as you all know,
and it is the intention of this year’s committee to utilise any fundraising and opportunities to further
advance the surfing performances within our junior and top competitive surfers - whilst still maintaining
the fun atmosphere that makes this club so great (with Dave, Sean and Leggatt on the committee I
expect we will see a lot more of the social potential at the clubhouse this year). With Melissa playing a
strong role in the junior development program and HPC and junior camps already in the works, it looks
like a promising era for our junior surfers also.
With that in mind, we encourage all members to
come along to the Victorian Teams Titles this year to support our top guys and girls in their bid to regain
the title. The relaxed, no-pressure attitude has been working better for us in the last few team events,
and with a strong young side available you never know what could happen. Come along in support
for what is guaranteed to be a fun, memorable day.
Cheers, Lachy.

FEBRUARY 2008 (SEASON 07/08)
I must say that I was glad to put the last couple of months behind me – not for any bad reasons, it’s just been very busy on the club front with the running of the Ozmosis/Nova Junior Pro and the Single Fin Classic and putting my 50th on, plus attending every other function that has been on offer over the summer!
What a fine display of new and old surfing we saw over that January period. From the unbelievably hot surfing from Julian Wilson and the all the other surfers who were in the junior pro to the ever so stylish Mick Peirce who took out the over fifties single fin comp. I can’t remember when I have seen Gunna turn it on so well for two consecutive comps.
On behalf of the club, I would like to thank all our sponsors who helped out with the Ozmosis/Nova comp. With out all their generous support we would not have been able to put on such an event. As far as junior events go, I reckon it went off and it would have to have been some of the best surfing that we’ve seen at gunna for a long time. It was great to see all our grommets down the beach every day taking advantage of seeing the pro junior guys and girls surfing. It showed them the level of surfing that iss out there in Australia today. Also a big thanks to all you grommets that were there each morning to help set up the contest area, it was a great help to the club.
Well done to Georgia Fish who got through the first few rounds in the under 18 girls division (she made the quarters and still has 5 years left in the division). Unfortunately for our boys, they came up against some pretty hot opposition in the first round heats, but what a great experience for them. Gunna really turned it on for the comp with ideal contest conditions and an unbelievable peak on the last day for the finals. The Ozmosis tent looked like it was having some fun on the hill watching the comp while enjoying a good spread of food and drink. Dave Thomas did a great job on the day looking after every one, and throughout the entire event helping out from both the club and Ozmosis sides. I think it could be the start of something big for the club. From all the comments I heard over the few days, the competitors were glad to be there and away from Jan Juc. They were stoked with the place, the waves they got and the hospitality they were given by our locals. Once again thanks every one that supported the event. Plus, thanks to guys like Mark Howey, Shannon, and Lachy and Gordon McDonald who gave a lot of their time to help out.
Backing that comp up we had the Australia Day single fin comp and that was as good as it gets for holding a comp. If you missed it then you missed what I reckon was one of the best social days the club has had in a long time. The day kicked off slowly due to the fog that was sitting over the bank when we arrived, but once Phil Newman started pumping out some of his classic 70’s music tunes that he put together for the day that things started to get under way. Both he and Geoff Voc set the mood for the day with some good old rambling on over the PA – thank god the battery eventually went flat (although it didn’t stop Phil!!). Along with the surfing everything was perfect. Watching the grommets first junior heat where most of them had never even surfed on a single fin was great. Later on back at the presentation Mick Peirce made a great comment when he said it was so good to watch the grommets adapt from not knowing how to surf single fins in their first heats to really learning how ride them by the final and putting a great display of young single fin surfing.
Well done to Ryan Chalmers pulling off a great win. All the club members that were there had a great day from start to finish with some exceptional surfing displays. Tex was the man on the day who took out the open division with a nice backside tube in the final but it was a very tightly contested with all the boys pushing each other. It would have been good to see more of the girls turn up for the event because the few that did had a great day. Next time don’t worry if you don’t have a single fin board as there were heaps there to borrow. I was great to catch up with past members and for them to see where the club is at these days, Hopefully it will now be set on the calendar for the Australia day weekend each year and we can get more and more past members to the event. After the comp we all went back to the club house for the presentation and it was probably the best crowd we have had for a long time. I think everybody is getting used to the place and what it’s all about. In the end a few of the crew settled in for the night. We watched all the footage on our new wide screen TV thanks to Fabian Damiani from Kalia constructions who kindly donated it to the club and a couple of the boys were trying to play pool. From here on in we will be showing each comp on the big screen at the end of the day and its well worth the look to see how you and your mates surfed during the day and to get the odd laugh. The lads from Davies Bay were the last few standing and one left sitting, I heard a rumor that one of them was let out of the back toilets well after the music went off and the lights went out. I guess he might have fallen asleep. Was that right, Vock!?
Well the next one on the Calendar was the Jim Beam Tag Team event where unfortunately we didn’t do so well. We unfortunately were just not on the pace. We made the rep where we started off well with Jack Winter smashing it, but fell apart from there on. The Island team were the eventual winners on the day followed closely by the South Australian team Seaford. We really need our team members to get hungrier in the way they approach these events. The other clubs seem to be much fitter in and out of the water than we are. I guess that’s because they are training a lot harder I spoke to the team managers and they reckon their teams are training at least 3 times a week. So, let’s take a lesson from that day so we can get up and win one of these comps sooner rather than later. It would be great if we could see the likes of Skeeta, Wombat and a few of our past open surfers return to the club and surf in our events also to help out when they are needed on days like this. I reckon we’ve got the surfers to do the job but we need them to be surfing in all our club events.
We’ve got a big day coming up next month with the annual PSC/Phillip Island Club Challenge and we are going to need you all on that day because it’s an event where all the club members get to surf and all points total up at the end of the day to win the Trophy. Phillip Island put on a great day for us last time with a big party back at their club house so we would like to do the same in return. Let’s show them some good old hospitality with a good showing of members on the day. Also bring your wives, mates and girlfriends back to the club house to try and replicate that pub atmosphere that seems to drag away our junior surfers from the clubhouse every Saturday night following a comp. We’ll be having a spit roast on for dinner and yes there will be some free drinks, so don’t plan anything for the night and be part of the whole day. Also we will be videoing the entire day’s surfing to show on the big screen, and to top the day off, we will be going back in time to hold a good old Iron Man Comp. If you haven’t seen one of these before then don’t miss out because they are all time to see and participate in if you are keen enough. We will be looking for a few members to take part in it.
Quiksilver Junior State Round
The first state round was held at gunna last week again in some pretty good waves. The results are starting to show for our club grommets who are thriving on competition surfing and going in any contest they can. We had a fantastic result in the under 18 girls with Georgia Fish winning the final. It sets her up nicely for the year ahead. Also congratulations to Sammy “Hobbit” Chalmers for making the under 16’s final and scoring a third place. That was Sam’s best result to date and a very well earned one at that. We saw a lot of our grommets make it through their first and second rounds with some solid displays from Michael Antonie, Mick Barber, Grant Williams and Liam Fowler early on in the comp. In the under 18 boys we saw a couple of solid performance by Wade Cochrane who just missed out on getting through to the semi and Angus Forest who made it to the semi but missed out getting into the final – next time mate. Over all it was great to see that we as a club had a lot of our grommets really having a go. Good luck to you all in the next few rounds.
World Titles
We must congratulate Mark Harrison on making the Australian Team that’s a great effort mate. I guess it’s going to interrupt his family holiday around Aus, but hey what’s a little left turn matter when you and the family have to leave the car over west and Jump on a plane to Brazil for a month. Good luck mate.
Fund Raiser
The committee has decided that we need to do another fund raiser for the club. We are hoping for this one to be our best to date as we have a common goal for all members and that is to pay the club house off this year. We are going to need as many members as possible to give support with this one. We feel the best fundraiser that will get us what we need, will be another Auction Night. It’s been 3 years since our last one, so we feel it’s time to have another crack at it. We need everybody to dig deep. By that, we mean getting something that we can Auction Off on the night. It doesn’t matter what it is, but as long as you can help out. There’s a saying, “if you don’t ask you don’t get”. We all know someone in business, whether it’s yourself, one of your parents, one of your mates or your next door neighbors. It’s just a matter of thinking about what you can do. We really need all members to make a big effort on this one and see what you can do or get for the club. Imagine this, we could own our club by the end of the year. That would be all time. We have planed the night for later in the year but as you know these nights take a huge amount of effort to get off the ground and we will need all the time we’ve got to do it. So can you all have a think about what you can get or what you can do? Items can be anything from a case off wine, donating your personal services for gardening or old jobs, massages, surf memorabilia, painting’s, surfboards, it doesn’t matter as long as you can help out. To raise the money that we are looking for we need a massive support for the night. If you can get onto it early it would be a huge help to the committee. You can contact me by ph 0438437520 or email me at easternfilms@bigpond.com to register your gift. The night will be the 4th of October so if you would also like to book a table then let me know.

OCTOBER 2007 (SEASON 07/08)
Here we go again - Well, what a year we’ve got ahead of us.
After a very small turn out from everybody to the first AGM at the Atrium where it ended up being cancelled and being moved to the following weekend at the clubhouse, it worked out really well as we had one of our best turn outs in years, great effort to all those who turned up. It makes it a lot easier to pick a new committee from a bunch of fresh faces instead of the usual crew that normally turn up. I reckon we’ve got a great committee with lots of new faces on board for the year.
Amy and Sophie will be looking after the girls, Caiden and Ryan will be splitting the workload looking after the Juniors. From what I hear they’ve got a busy year ahead, doing the grom thing. Ian Burns is back looking after our finances along with Claire in the back ground, Ronny is back to look after the Bar, Jane is back doing the paper work, Frank 'the best Trailer Monitor ever' is back on board to show how the trailer and equipment should be kept. Alex Vrana is going to be looking after the Barbe, Look out. Lachy and Homer running the comps 'beware the wingers'. Tex and Drakie will helping out on the contest days and general committee stuff. Also for those of you who haven’t heard I will be Pres and Fass will be Vice Pres for 'one last year'.
With the team we've assembled I reckon it should be a good fun year. The one thing that I would like in return for being pres of the past few years, is for our club team to dig deep and bring home the teams title for us. That is my one and only wish as a long time PSC Clup President.
Anyway, sorry about the delay in getting the first news letter out to you, but I’ve been busy having fun in the tropics catching some smoking waves and dodging Earth Quakes with a few of the boys, Me, Ronny, Scratch. Tim, Salmon, Darty, Farms and the two groms Liam Jolly and Caiden, who I must say made most of us look our age, ripping up everything that resembled a wave. Darty charged on the bigger ones and got some great barrels. I of cause kept the boys well fed with some great fish and had a few good waves.
Ron, Farms and Salmon had a slow start but got well and truly into it after a long wet plane trip if you know what I mean. I think they smashed Booney’s record on the amount of cans drunk of a single journey. Tim represented the old guy’s, surfing every minute of the day with the groms. We managed to run into Watto and Brenny and their cronies on their party boat at anchor one night. That, I must say was a huge night going to well into the early hours of the next day. When we went our separate ways the next morning we got a message from their boat advising us that one of our passengers had been taken prisoner over night, so we counted the heads on board and realised we were missing one of our crew and it didn’t take long before we realised it was Salmon. After sending our Dingy bake for him we were back on our way. It was toss up between Watto and Salmon for B.O.G that night. Anyway it was a great trip for all of us. I will get a few picks up on the website when I get a chance.
We'll be going straight into contest mode in a few weeks with our first comp on Saturday October 27th, followed up by the team’s titles at the island the next week, then back for another club comp. Then getting ready for a great summer of contests and festivities at the club. We now have got the Ozmosis/ Nova pro junior comp locked in for the 15th to the 20th of January 2008, thanks to the support of out long time sponsor Ozmosis who have worked a great deal out with Nova to come on board as a equal partner for the event. We are going to make sure this event is the one event on the calendar that all the surfers from around Aus want to enter. It’s going to be a huge week for the club and we’re going to need a lot of support when the time comes around to make sure it is a success.
Any body willing to help out over those few days can contact me. We are going to need Beach Marshall’s, General Work Crew to set up and pull down the tents etc, Life Guard and Ski Driver for the duration of the comp. The more people that offer their support the better the comp will run. And it will save on running costs.
We will be having a trials day at Gunna 'date to be set'. Where, there will be a limited number of entry’s given to club members. Also to ad to the week we will be having the PSC Summer House Party. Ozmosis/Nova are going to support this night and we will have the likes of Grant Smiley and Kiss Chassey playing. Plus other support acts. It’ll be one of the best rages the club has had in years. All tickets will be pre sold, so whether you are a club member or not, you will need a ticket. They will go on sale at the 1st of November and I would suggest that because we have Ozmosis/Nova involved, it will sell out pretty quickly, so get in early and save your spot by buying a ticket. You will not be able to buy tickets or gain entry on the night if you don’t have a ticket as we have an external company organizing the ticket sales and security. It will be Huge. Spread the word and get your mates in early as well.
Preso Night was as usual was a great night, a little expensive but at the end of the day if every body had a good night and we got you all home safely it was well worth it. Congratulations to Andrew Hyde for taking out coveted Peninsula Surfriders Open Championship. “Well done mate”. He had a close tussle for the title with Jack Winter 2nd and Tex 3rd. Liam Jolly and Adam Morris also had a close finish in the Juniors with Liam coming out on top with the title this time, closely followed by Caiden and Ryan. I think these boys are going to put some pressure on in the open this year, good to see. Well done to our new Women’s and Junior Girls Champ Georgia Fish and Sophie Cizek 2nd Place, and Tracey a close 3rd place. Also to Sophie McKinley 2nd and Bonnie Patterson 3rd in the Junior Girls. Well done to Josh Hallam taking out the Cadets Final from Tom Stenford 2nd place and Angus Forrest 3rd place . Watch out for these kids as they are starting to fire up. Well done to Mel Harrison for winning the Best Club Person of the year and to Callum Nicholson for most improved and to Sammy Wise for winning the encouragement award. I could keep on going but all the results are on our website. Once again well done to all the other division winners and place getters for 2006/ 2007 season. I reckon the level in all divisions has made a great improvement this year. I look forward to seeing you all giving it a good crack this year.
Time to Break the Drought
I think it’s time we broke the long drought and bring home the Teams Title to where it belongs. By the time you have received this newsletter we will have already had a couple of training sessions for it. If you haven’t been to one and you want to be part of the team training, then get yourself to Gunna every Wednesday night to join in. Training starts at 5pm and will continue up until the comp. The team's titles will be held at Phillip Island this year, which will give us our best chance to win it in a long time. I reckon over the last few years we have built our team up enough so we can give it a real crack. Our younger surfers have now gained enough experience to beat the other teams. We are a much stronger group than we’ve been for years. There will be no outsiders brought into the team this time. So get down to the training night, as the saying goes 'no train no game'.
Once again it will be a big day for the club and we want all members there for support. As it’s going to be at Phillip Island it will be a much better day not having to that long bus ride to the west, just a short trip to the east. The club will be subsidizing the bus over there. If we go off the last few years the bus will fill up quickly so get your name on the list asap so you don’t miss out. The trip will only cost $25 each and will include all food for the day and a team's title T-shirt, and hopefully having a sip or two out of the cup. Please support the club and make the effort for this one because this could just be the year we bring it home, going on past records after we win it could be a day to remember. But as they say, 'let’s keep the lid on'.
Sponsors
On behalf of all our members I would like thank all our sponsors for their support last year, because with out it we wouldn’t be able to be the club we are today. We also look forward to having you on board with us for the up and coming year. We’d also like to see you down at one of our contest days to see how we run things and maybe have a couple of beers with us. Once again thanks to you all. Members, next time you need something look one of them up and mention to them you are from the PSC and I’m sure you will be looked after.
Don't forget all PSC club comps and including the Trigger PSC junior comps will be confirmed that they will be either run or cancelled on the proceeding Thursday before each comp. It will also be displayed on the PSC, Ozmosis and Trigger Brothers web sites and on the clubhouse phone, we will also send a SMS to all mobil phones, so make sure your details are recorded with us at the next club comp. Before heading off down the beach check out one of the above sites as the info will be up by 12.am on the Friday before the comp.

MAY 2007 (SEASON 06/07)
What an autumn it’s been!
This news letter was written just after the epic week of surf...
I woke up today (Friday) and was actually glad to see the wind had turned onshore because (like most of the older and quite a few younger surfers on the coast) we all went pretty hard over the week and my arms and shoulders are knackered. There were so many perfect waves to be had with the banks from Pumping Station to the other end of Gunna all perfect. Like most of the lads I never went past first car park because that was as good as it’s been in a long time. From what I’m hearing from so many surfers over the last couple of days, that week would have to be one of the best surfing weeks we’ve had for a very long time. If you couldn’t get down there you really missed out!
Those are the weeks where if you’re self employed it really pay’s off; not in the pocket, but in the amount of quality waves you get. I really don’t think a lot of work was done during the week by any of the tradies, because I was down there every day and I saw a heap of you each day (where were you Skip!?). I actually started writing this newsletter on Monday after the First comp but I got a call from Fass early that day to tell me the surf was going off and I should try and get down there. A quick TriggerBros web site check and didn’t need any more convincing and left for the day – it was that good that I never returned till the following Monday. I even heard a comment that “if you were on a trip any where in the world you would be stoked to get a week like that.” It wasn’t the best Gunna I’ve seen but it sure was one of the best weeks of consistently, near-perfect surf I’ve seen in a long time. I guess you could say this autumn has probably been one the best we’ve had in years, it’s just keeps on coming. Hopefully we will get these conditions for a little longer.
To top the week off, during my last surf Pete Smith from Clean Ocean paddled out, and while we were waiting for a set he mention to me that they had finally got a date from the government promising that the Outfall at Gunna will be closed by 2012. Congratulation to all the staff at Clean Ocean Foundation, it’s been a long fight for them to finally get the result that we all wanted. Check out
We all hate it when we get judged wrongly or a wave is missed. So to try and avoid this happening we need your help to make it better for every one. It's not much to ask for each member to judge a couple of heats, but if you have been involved with the contest directors then you will know how hard it is to get members to judge. Remember it's your club and no one is paid to sit there and judge your heat and you will only get out of it what you put in. It was said to me at the last contest by a member that it’s no good for them to judge because they didn't know how to do it. My reply to them was how can you go out and surf a heat when you don't know what the judges are looking for? It is in every bodies best interest to judge our comps and it will help you better understand what will give you a better score.
Contest-wise we finally got the 5th comp finished on the weekend of the 12th in some exceptional surf, though at times some big solid sets pushed through. As most of you know we had a slow start to the day because of the size and tide issues, and after sending the contest committee for a quick drive to Paradise (while the rest of us waited at Gunna for the decision to move) Lachy and Homer called and told us that we could hold it at Old Pumping Station. So off we all drove to the Paradise car park, after arriving there we didn’t see a set for ages and then started contemplating should we head back to Gunna or do the long walk down to Old Pumping Station. I could see the hassle of trying to run the comp down there and I gave my vote to head back to Gunna, agreed on by the rest of the committee. Shortly after they boy’s made the call we were back at Gunna with the tents up, BBQ firing and the first Final from the 4th comp in the water within 30 minutes!
As it turned out it was a good decision because it gave the banks a little time to get over the morning bump. We had 2 hrs of finals to run (split banks) and then we were straight into the 5th comp heats. As time went on the rights got a little more contestable (apart from the rip pushing off the bank) and there was some fantastic surfing throughout the day in all the divisions. The Cadets were charging some good sized over-head waves. I heard comments during the day on how good the Cadet’s in both the Girl and Boys’ divisions were surfing – you can really see how much benefit the PSC Trigger Summer comps at Pt Leo are helping their development. Most of the PSC members don’t see what goes on over at Pt Leo during the Surf crew comps, but I reckon the efforts contributed by Skip, Clare, Harry, Melissa, and the Trigger Bros is great for the future of the club.
Also on the Juniors and Cadet’s; it’s so good to see you all at all the State Round Comps competing and supporting each other, it has been non stop contests-fest for the juniors over the last few months, and they are all having a great crack at it. A couple of weeks ago on the west coast the Vic Health Schools Surfing Titles were held in what I would call the Best Juc (AKA Jan Joke or Jan Junk) I’ve ever seen - there were actually good waves all day! Nearly every one of our grommets surfed in the event with the two out standing members being Georgia Fish 4th in the U16 girls and Adam Morris 3rd in the U19boys. We had quite a few PSC surfers getting through the early rounds with a few making it as far as the semis also. Well done to all of you. I was in the Torquay Pub that night with a few of the other parents having dinner and it was so good to see that the majority of grommets hanging out the front were from the east coast. We’ve got some real talent coming through with this lot!! Thanks for another great year.

MARCH 2007
Well what a summer we are having and how quick is it going? I reckon it's been our best January/february stretch for waves in years. It's great to see first car park turning on some filth right and lefts. Apart from last weekend! Sorry about the bad call for the club comp but we were given a bum steer
from all weather reports. At least we got it right for the third comp and the cash comp where they were held in some great waves especially the cash
comp, which pumped all day. Congratulation to GT for taking out the open final and walking away with the money and Caiden Fowler for taking out
the juniors. Also to our new female member, Lisa Black, for taking out the girls. Plus Rod Drake for showing the old boys can still match it on a good
day by making the final. There was some great surfing all day with Darty taking out the wave of the day in a big stand up barrel. The juniors surfed
really well as did the girls in some testing size waves. See some of the photos taken by Jason Salmon during the finals on the club website and
the attached spread.
Thanks to all of our sponsors who helped out on the day. With the support they gave us we were able to spread the prizes out amongst a lot
of the kids and also throughout each division. The Sponsors that support our club should be thanked and supported by us because with out
their support we wouldn't be able to run these events and to run our raffles etc. So Thank you to all - Dave Thomas and Ozmosis, Paul
and Phil from Trigger Brothers, Jon and Brett from Balin, Bean from Bean Surfing Aust, Chris Muir from FCS, Ryan from Rusty, Cam from Volcom, Ted
and George from Peninsula Surf Centre and Mark from Globe. Well done. Make sure if you need some gear get into one of these stores and
support our local industry. unfortunately the waves turned to the worse possible conditions for the annual Jim Beam Surf Tag Event. The weather and waves were absolute crap for the event. I'd say it would have to have been the worst conditions that I have seen any event held in. When we arrived a Gunna at 7.30
am we drove straight into full on southerly storm with the rain coming in sideways. When the storm passed the Jim Beam Team decided to move the
event to Rye where they could at least sit in their cars to judge. We had two teams of five surfers in the first round. Disappointingly both teams did
pretty badly with only one team progressing to the final.
Our surfers tried hard in the final but we again came a disappointing 4th - Torquay winning just in front of Phillip Island and 13th Beach. Its easy to
say we could have done better if the waves were better but they still got the better waves and out-scored and out-surfed us by a long way.
If we are to start winning these types of events again we need to surf with more competitiveness and aggression during events. I reckon that surfer
against surfer we can match it but we are a long way off the mark when it comes to teams titles. If any members have a solution to how we can
improve then we would love to hear your ideas. I think more of our members need to get involved at a state level to see what the level of surfing is
really going on in our state, and then when you come up against these surfers you will have more of an understanding of what they are like and that
will give you a competitive edge. It’s all well and good and to be winners in our club in our back yard but I think it's about time we got
back out there and mixed it up with the rest of the state. It’s been at least ten years since we won our last teams title and that’s
far too long. So why don’t we take advantage of the fact that they think they can beat Peninsula any time and turn it around over the next
few months and make a solid effort and win the next teams title which will be held at Phillip Island.
After the event was finished Jim Beam held the presentation back at the clubrooms where they put on a good feed and a heap of slabs of Jim
Beam. They also had the Jim Beam Girls there who were keeping the boys happy by handing out the drinks and having their photos taken with the lads.
Sammy and Brooksy where were you?
Our next Club comp will be on the 21st of April and it would be good to see you there nice and early, ready to go - that's if the waves are good.
At the last committee meeting it was voted in that for all future club events we will be having a six person judging panel in stead of the usual five.
This is because the judging in the last couple of events has been a bit below standard. The 6th person on the panel will be classed as the head judge of
that heat and will also be the spotter. During the heat they will over see each judge and try to help keep the judging at a good average in stead of
one person giving a wave a 2 when it should have been a 5, and also to try and stop waves from being missed.
We all hate it when we get judged wrongly or a wave is missed. So to try and avoid this happening we need your help to make it better for every one.
It's not much to ask for each member to judge a couple of heats, but if you have been involved with the contest directors then you will know how hard
it is to get members to judge. Remember it's your club and no one is paid to sit there and judge your heat and you will only get out of it what you put in.

OCTOBER 2006
Welcome to a new year in the PSC. Firstly, special thanks to all our sponsors who have signed on again for this year and welcome on board to a few new companies we have gained. We look forward to having you on as our sponsors and we hope to see you down at the club on our contest days for a beer or two.
Congratulations to Tex for becoming our club champion for 2005 – 2006 season. Well done mate. Also congratulations to all the other division winners and place getters.
Presentation night went off pretty well with every body arriving at the Atrium early ready for a big night. from my memory of the night it looked as if every body had a great time. It was good to see so many Cadets and Juniors there with their partners and the old blokes for the first time in a long time bringing their wives along. They all got up and had a good old groove together - smiles all round.
Congratulations to Ian Burns who took out two big awards for the night one being the Best Clubman and the other becoming a life Member of the club. he was very worthy of both of these awards. The Atrium is such a good place to have our presso night at, so we need to preserve it on those nights and try to not damage the place. Venues like this one are hard to find. We had a couple of small incidents that put pressure on between the new owners and the committee, but I think with our rapid response of Darty coming to
the rescue and fixing the broken parts we should be able to return there next year. Overall the night was a success and we broke even, which on Presso night is a good thing.

May 2006
G'day to all PSC Members
Firstly on behalf of the committee, we apologise for any inconvenience to our members that were put out due to the cancellation of the last couple of contests, but as you saw they ended up being good calls. With the weather reports and the use of the Internet these days forecasting the weather is so good, we thought it is much better to cancel the contest early so you can make other arrangements for the day.
Hopefully the next contest date will provide us with the rewards of being patient and give us some good waves and
if the banks keep improving over the next couple of weeks we could be surfing some really good waves, so keep your
fingers crossed and hope for the best.
To keep up with what's going on with club contest dates and any other functions we have on the go, check out the club website. It's kept up to date by Shannon - www.psc.org.au.
Looking at the results for the past three comps, most of the divisions seem to be wide open as to who could win
them so this could be your chance to do it. So get down to Gunna on the 20th of May and see if you can put
your name in the trophy cabinet. Thanks to Robbyand Lauchiewho again worked hard all day running the 3rd
comp. Without the hard work that our contest directors put in on comp days it would be a major hassle so well
done guys. Also Melissawas once again a great help with the Junior Girls. I look forward to seeing you all at
the next contest; hopefully it won’t be too cold. Phillip Island club Challenge

February 2006
G'day to all PSC Members Redeye's Surf & Fishing Report.
Well what a summer we are having, some of the hottest weather we have had for years, I've heard there has been some pretty good session going down
if you have been at the beach at the right time, it's been great for those who could go surfing and great for those who could only
wet a line, and that been me, every time you guy's were pulling into Gunna car park I was backing my boat into the Mornington Boat ramp to go
snapper fishin, you all might have been getting heaps of good waves and I've had my best Snapper season ever, beating my
old record of maybe 5 snapper in one season to boating over 115. (So Far). Biggest one was 7.5KG. But I must say pulling into
a good barrel still beats pulling in a snapper, but I guess that depends on the size of the barrel and the size of the fish.
One could almost say I have been hooked on fishing. On the Sunday after spending a fantastic day with everybody at the club
comp I had the pleasure of going fishing out the back of Gunna Rye area, within an hour I had been bitten off by something pretty
large, and within the next half hour we got a call from a mates boat where he had just started a two and a half hour battle with a
very big fish. At the end of the fight he had caught a 250KG Bronze Whaler approx 3.5meters long with some pretty nasty teeth
in it, seeing it along side the boat was as close as I would ever want to be to one of those suckers. But I must say, it was fun. While I was
in the boat I was in contact with Caidenand Liamall day and they were telling me the surf was going off, Jomy wife was out
Horse Riding all day, so all in all it ended up with every body in the Fowler house have a great weekend.
I'm back in the water now with my shoulder almost fully recovered and looking forward to our coasts best part of the year, and I'm
hoping to snag a few Barrels myself and maybe a few just a few more snappers on there way out. The second comp went off really well,
thanks to the hard working members of the committee, the waves were good for most of the day with only the last couple of hours making
it hard due to the tide getting so low and making the good ones hard to find, it was great to see every body having a good day.
Congratulations to all the winners on the day.
A special welcome and congratulations to all the new junior Boys and Girlswho joined up and made things a little tougher for our existing members.
It was good to see. This was the first day in the History of the club that we have had 2 junior girls heats. I think its fantastic for the clubs future.
And I hear that there were a few others that were at the Mal Contest. So we look forward to them turning up for the next comp. If there's any under
13 Kids that are keen to join up we would love to see you at the next comp too. It was good to see some of our junior surfers
like, Alex Vrana, Sean Winter and Adam Morris taking it up to the older A grade surfers. The three of them did well and made both the Junior Final and
the A Grade finals.
We are starting to see some real improvement in our junior ranks, which is going to put us in real good shape for the next few years when
we challenge for the Victorian Teams Titles. Keep it up Boys. With the influx of the new Girls to the club I think we are going to see a
big charge in progression from them as well over the next few years. If you were there watching the finals squashed in under the tents with
it raining falling steadily for the finals you would have seen some of the younger crew punting some pretty solid airs, Adam Morris put up
the best one of the day and it's good to see they are confident enough to throw them up when their under pressure in a final but to Tex's
delight they couldn't peg him back and he ended up taking out the A Grade Final, well done mate. In our Cadets division we saw a couple of
new kids Shannon Fry and Nick Hammondfrom down Blairgowie way coming first and second and putting some pressure on Josh and Caiden.
Good to see and well-done boys.
I guess the most important news over the past few years it that we have finally secured the Club House into the PSC own name without any ties
to any one. We only owe $50,000 on the property that is worth well in exccess of $600,000. Our aim is to have this paid off within the next 3 years.
To get this far it's taken a lot of support from our members and from our Sponsors who have helped us out since purchasing the property.
With out their support it could not have been done. Thanks to JP once again for getting us started and signing the property over
to us. If you have been to the club house lately you would have seen the hard work some of the crew have put in to get our new toilet and shower
block up and running, it paid off over the Balin Junior Proas we had Quiksilver rent the entire club house out for $2,000 bucks for the week end.
We look forward to them doing it again next year. The showers are a great added value to the members as when you have had one of those cold winter
surfs you can drop in there and warm up before you either head home or go for another surf.
I would like to thank Ash Griffin, Wobby, Andrew Strauss, Homer, John Paul, Jane Featherstone, Skip, Mick Fowler from Nepean Roofing, Ron Gorringe,
Ian Burns, Reece Plumbing Supplies, Craig Watto, Romano Grande from Bore Well, Well done guy's.
And thanks to our suppliers for giving us the product to do the job. New Members Please Note: The PSC provides trophies for each division on
competition day and they are presented to the finalist back at the club house directly after each event, All new members are welcome to come
and join us and see the club house and parents are also welcome to come and have a beer or two. Look forward to seeing you next comp.

May 2005
Welcome all PSC members,
to the last newsletter for 2004/05.
It's been a great year, both in and out of the water. The club rooms have
seen great changes with the skate ramp finished, alongside the great beer
drinking deck. The BBQ that BMC & Eddie have built is grand, and the
grassed area looking lush.
The year has seen some good waves for our contests and the single fin
comp was a huge success both at Point Leo and back at the club rooms.
The old boys put on a great show. Who knew they had it in them? Thanks
to Howie, Gav Duffy, Skippy, and Vock for their efforts. Thanks also to
all the loyal club members who worked hard to make the day one of the
best days the club has seen in a long time.
I hope you are all ready for what looks like a big Presso Night.
Tables are selling fast, with everybody happy to have Presso Night back
at The Atrium in Mount Martha. So get in and get a table
organised. Phone committee for tickets.
This year
you will be required to attend the A.G.M. on Monday 4th of July.
All members are expected to be there for the hand over to the new committee
plus other issues which need your vote. Last of all thank you to everyone
that has supported me this year, I hope you have enjoyed what I see as
a successful year for P.S.C.

February 2005
Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year to all PSC members and families. Hope you all kept sane through
the silly season. Just a quick hi to everyone to let you know what's coming
up in the next few months as we go up a gear into the busy summer surfing
season.
I'd like to congratulate all the final contenders in all divisions at
our 2nd club comp on the 4th of December. Not the greatest conditions
but certainly contestable. Hoping Gunna can turn it on for us over the
next few comps because we're definitely due for it.
For those who haven't dropped in, there's been some work done on the front
lawn. A big thanks to GT and C Watto for playing a friendly game of 'spinkler
war'.
For those in the Jim Beam SURFTAG, all the grueling work did pay off with
a 2nd on the weekend at Rye. It was great to see all members there spurring
the team on in PSC colors. Winning were Clifton (Tasy), 2nd PSC, 3rd Phillip
Island and 4th Torquay.
A well done to Tim Dexter who got through his 1st two heats at the Balin
Junior Pro and Jack Winter for getting through his first. I hope to see
you all out at 1st carry practicing for the next comp.

August 2004
Welcome everybody at P.S.C, to another year
of good waves and fun times. I hope all had a fun Preso night. I would
like to thank last year's committee for setting up and running an excellent
night, the food was fantastic and the band unreal. Many thanks to all
the people who made the night a success.
Mondays A.G.M had a better attendance
than last year, the people that turned up showed that we do have enthusiasm
and commitment in making this 'the best club'. The new President for this
season is Pecka, who did a good job as Vice Pres last year, and has put
his hand up to have a go at the top.
The (eski puppet) Ronnie, and Burnzy
are doing the treasurer thing again, and you all will see them when you
pay for your memberships at the club rooms before the first comp. These
two lads have worked so hard with our clubs finances for many years now,
so lets try and make there jobs as easy as we can.
Robbie Warden is contest director, it
was a close vote between Robbie and last years director B.M.C who did
a grand job. Robbie has some enthusiastic ideas for this year, and I would
like to see everybody giving him 100% backing. Emily
Bawden has taken on the job as sectary and we all welcome her and appreciate
her commitment.
The boys put up there hands this year
and we had to vote for the committee (first time in many years) with this
we have ended up with a strong bunch of committed lads, to help run the
show. Eddie, J.P, Little Harry, Chopper, Chuck, Matt S, Johnny Leggo and
Josh as our cadet rep.
Thanks all so to Liam who has offered
to run the bar and look after the stock. Thanks to Wellsy who put his
hand up and told us he was going to help anyway when he missed the committee
vote. That's showing commitment.
So welcome all members to the start of
a special 30th year at P.S.C. We kick of the season with the first comp
at Gunna on the 2nd of October. Remember club rooms first with membership
money, then Gunna car park.
